Job description

We are seeking a Primary Electrical Design Engineer specialising in HV/EHV substation and BESS electrical layout design to support grid-connected energy infrastructure projects across 11kV–400kV systems. The role involves leading the primary electrical design and site layout development for substations, including AIS/GIS substations, switch rooms, control rooms, cable routing, and site earthing systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing electrical plant layouts, ducting and cable routing drawings, equipment support structures, and grid connection designs integrating BESS containers, inverters, PCS units, transformers, and auxiliary systems. The role also includes contributing to system studies, equipment specifications, and technical reviews with manufacturers for key HV plant such as circuit breakers, transformers, CTs, VTs, and disconnectors.

You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary design teams, construction teams, and commissioning engineers to deliver turnkey energy infrastructure projects, ensuring designs comply with relevant grid standards and HV/EHV installation requirements. The position also involves supporting design standardisation initiatives and mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements:

Degree / HND / HNC in Electrical Engineering

Proven experience in primary HV substation design within utilities, engineering consultancies, or EPC contractors

Experience with substation layout design, cable installation methods, and grid connection infrastructure

Knowledge of HV/EHV design practices and grid compliance standards

Experience working on renewable energy or BESS grid connection projects

Familiarity with AIS/GIS substation design and integration with energy storage systems
