Electrical Commissioning Site Manager – Contract Opportunity

Vallum Associates has partnered with a leading client in the power delivery and grid modernization sector to support the commissioning of a high-voltage substation.

This is a hands-on, field-based role (≈ 80 % on-site) leading commissioning, testing, and energization activities, with the remaining 20 % focused on coordination and documentation. Ideal for engineers with deep protection & controls / relay testing expertise who enjoy taking ownership at site.


Top Experience Areas We’re Targeting:

  • Field commissioning experience on transmission or substation systems

  • Testing and commissioning of substations (230 kV / 345 kV)

  • Protection & controls/relay testing and troubleshooting

  • Managing site personnel and commissioning teams

  • Comprehensive understanding of component testing and system energization

Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as the single point of contact for all site commissioning activities

  • Ensure EHS compliance across the commissioning scope

  • Conduct system testing and verify Site Acceptance Criteria

  • Coordinate with schedulers, vendors, and engineering teams

  • Manage PTW / isolation processes to ensure safety

  • Drive documentation and turnover deliverables through completion

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience

  • 5 + years of hands-on commissioning or field engineering experience in substations or transmission systems

  • Strong technical understanding of protection schemes, relays, and control systems

  • Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, and test procedures

  • Proven leadership and client-facing communication skills

  • Familiarity with NERC, IEEE, and OSHA standards preferred
