Job Opportunity: Senior Proprietary Trader – CWE Power
Location: Zug, Switzerland
Position Type: Permanent / Full-time
We are currently leading a search for a Senior Proprietary Trader to join an established trading house based in Zug, Switzerland. Our client is a sophisticated player in the European energy markets, looking to expand their footprint across the Central Western Europe (CWE) power curves.
This is a high-conviction, risk-taking role designed for a trader who thrives on autonomy and possesses a deep fundamental understanding of the European interconnected grid.
The Mandate
Strategy Execution: Full P&L responsibility for proprietary trading strategies across the CWE region, specifically focusing on Germany, France, and the Benelux markets.
Market Focus: Trade the curve from Front-Month through to the Front-Year, utilizing both discretionary and systematic approaches.
Flow-Based Analysis: Leverage expert knowledge of Flow-Based Market Coupling (FBMC) to identify and capture arbitrage opportunities and price convergences.
Risk Management: Manage large-scale exposure and Greeks within a rigorous VaR-based risk framework, ensuring a high Sharpe ratio.
Collaboration: Work alongside a dedicated team of quantitative analysts and meteorologists to refine fundamental supply/demand models and execution tools.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: Minimum of 7 years in European Power trading, with at least 4 years of proven success specifically within the CWE markets.
Performance Track Record: A demonstrable, multi-year history of consistent P&L generation and disciplined drawdown management.
Technical Skills: Strong quantitative mindset. Proficiency in Python or SQL is highly preferred for data analysis and back-testing strategies.
Market Depth: Comprehensive understanding of the European energy transition, including renewables penetration, thermal merit orders, and cross-border flow dynamics.
Academic Background: Master’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
