Job description
About the Opportunity:
My client is a high-growth startup, backed by $32M in funding, pioneering breakthroughs in next-generation high-energy systems. By dramatically reducing costs and shrinking the footprint of technology once reserved for governments and major research institutions, their innovations are set to unlock new applications across material science, biotech, and energy generation.
They’re now seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to design, build, and lead the development of state-of-the-art control systems that sit at the core of this revolutionary platform. This is a rare chance to join early, shape the full architecture, and deliver a system from the ground up.
What You’ll Do:
Lead overall control system strategy and development for the platform.
Design and implement the hardware and software architecture for next-gen accelerator systems.
Oversee the full lifecycle: design → build → integration → commissioning.
Build and mentor a team of controls experts to support scaling.
Collaborate with external partners and research institutions to integrate and optimise control/data acquisition systems.
Work with scientists, engineers, and data teams to develop integrated database and control solutions.
What We’re Looking For
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
5+ years’ experience designing and implementing advanced control systems.
Proven expertise with SCADA and DCS architectures for large industrial/scientific systems.
Strong knowledge of control programming languages (PLC, C/C++, Python, LabVIEW, etc.).
Solid experience in hardware/software interfacing across multiple applications.
Team-oriented, collaborative, and strong communication skills.
On-site presence (Carlsbad, CA) with occasional travel required.
Bonus Skills:
Experience with TANGO, EPICS, or similar control frameworks.
Knowledge of control systems for large lasers, accelerators, or comparable systems.
Cost/time estimation and requirements definition experience.
What’s on Offer
Salary: $150,000 – $230,000 base (Experience dependent)
Stock options and long-term incentives
Full benefits: medical, dental, vision, life insurance
401(k) with company match, holidays and PTO
Chance to shape a groundbreaking platform in applied science & technology
✨ If you’re excited by the idea of building cutting-edge control systems that will drive the future of science and industry, I’d love to hear from you.
