About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Power Trading Manager to lead a growing trading desk operating across UK and European power markets. The role combines team leadership, commercial strategy, and oversight of daily trading activity, with responsibility for PnL delivery and risk management.
This position is ideal for a senior trader ready to step into leadership or an established manager seeking broader responsibility in London’s fast-paced trading environment.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor, and support a team of traders and analysts.
Set trading objectives, ensure disciplined risk-taking, and maintain high performance standards.
Drive a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement.
Trading & Strategy Oversight
Oversee trading across intraday, day-ahead, forward, and structured markets.
Develop, challenge, and refine desk-level trading strategies.
Monitor PnL, understand risk exposures, and optimise overall desk returns.
Identify new commercial opportunities, market inefficiencies, and product expansions.
Market & Fundamental Analysis
Supervise the analysis of UK and European fundamentals: supply/demand, weather, interconnection flows, outages, RES forecasts, and cross-border spreads.
Ensure robust valuation models, forecasting tools, and reporting processes.
Collaborate with quant, data, and automation teams on model-driven and algorithmic initiatives.
Risk Management & Governance
Manage market, credit, and operational risks in line with limits and policies.
Ensure compliance with regulatory/market rules (UK and EU).
Act as the main point of contact for senior leadership, risk, and compliance teams.
Internal & External Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with asset optimisation, analytics, structuring, and commercial strategy.
Represent the desk in management meetings and strategic discussions.
Provide input into budgeting, long-term strategy, and portfolio development.
Requirements
5–10+ years experience in UK or European power trading (intraday, DA, forward, structured or optimisation).
Strong PnL track record and deep understanding of UK/EU power market dynamics.
Experience leading a team or mentoring junior traders.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills; comfortable with data-driven trading.
Ability to perform under pressure while managing complex risk exposures.
Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Proficiency in English required.
What We Offer
Leadership role with significant autonomy and commercial influence.
Competitive compensation with strong performance-based bonus.
Opportunity to grow a desk, shape strategy, and influence company-wide commercial decisions.
Advanced tools, high-quality analytics, and a strong collaborative culture.
Clear progression to Head of Desk / Head of Trading / Commercial Manager.
