About the Role

Infrastructure is constantly evolving. It must be maintained, renewed, and reimagined. Whatever stage you are at in your career, this role offers the opportunity to grow and develop in an environment that is safety-focused, client-centric, and rooted in respect, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Where You’ll Be Working

You will be joining an organisation that provides end-to-end solutions across electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV infrastructure, metering and home decarbonisation.

This position sits within the Electricity Transmission team, responsible for designing, building and commissioning substations up to 400kV. The team also constructs and maintains transmission infrastructure to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

The role will cover projects across the South West and South Wales, with regular visits to regional offices, therefore, a willingness to travel is essential.

What Will You Be Doing?

As Head of Commercial, you will be a key member of the Senior Management Team, responsible for driving commercial excellence and nurturing strong relationships with clients. You’ll lead on commercial governance, risk management, valuations, progress validation and reporting — ensuring robust and consistent commercial controls are in place across the business.

Team Management & Development

  • Define team structure, roles, responsibilities and competencies.

  • Build and mentor a high-performing team with clear objectives and development plans.

  • Oversee training and development pathways, including support for APC or equivalent qualifications.

  • Champion a culture of contractual and commercial awareness.

Commercial Service Delivery

  • Work with the Business Unit Director to develop the annual business plan and strategy.

  • Lead work-winning activity, resourcing and alignment with pre-contract commercial teams.

  • Develop and implement commercial strategies around tenders, cash flow, and margin improvement.

  • Review commercial risks and obligations prior to tender submission.

  • Negotiate contract conditions in line with governance requirements.

  • Ensure strong contract administration across change control and payment processes.

  • Oversee monthly cost/value reconciliations and forecasts, supporting and challenging project teams.

  • Maximise cash flow and manage WIP across all contracts.

  • Collaborate with Legal and Contract teams to resolve or avoid disputes.

  • Identify insurance recovery opportunities and liaise with relevant internal teams.

  • Attend monthly project reviews to assess performance and drive corrective action.

  • Support reviews on current and future contract performance.

  • Ensure compliance with year-end audit requirements.

  • Drive achievement of departmental and business objectives.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related business discipline (preferred).

  • Strong commercial expertise within the electricity transmission sector.

  • In-depth understanding of Standard Forms of Contract, Contract Law and measurement methods.

  • Knowledge of programming and project controls.

  • Excellent negotiation, communication and reporting skills.

  • Proven leadership ability with a passion for developing a high-performing team.

  • Full UK driving license with flexibility to travel to sites and offices.
