LOCATIONS: This position is available in Nottingham or Birmingham.
Role Overview
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will focus primarily on the non-regulated electricity market, with particular emphasis on renewable infrastructure and connections. There will also be selective engagement across adjacent strategic sectors.
The role sits within a broader Energy Division Sales and Strategy function, working alongside business development, bidding and operational teams across the wider group. The position requires national travel and occasional overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with senior leadership to understand market growth trends, shape strategy and agree priority targets
Conduct, analyze and present market and client research, with a focus on ICP connections and balance of plant opportunities linked to renewable generation
Develop a strong understanding of client drivers, funding models and project revenue streams to inform tailored tender strategies
Build detailed client intelligence, identifying key opportunities, risks and market challenges
Create and manage strategic account plans, including investment pipelines and competitor activity
Map key stakeholders and decision-makers, building strong relationships at all organizational levels
Maintain accurate opportunity and client data within the CRM system
Support competitive positioning by maintaining detailed knowledge of clients and competitors during live bids
Lead senior-level client engagement, including meetings, workshops, procurement events and solution presentations
Work closely with the central bid team to manage strategic opportunities and ensure governance compliance
Contribute to bid / no-bid decisions, internal approvals and governance documentation
Support bid managers with win themes, answer plans, evidence development and bid reviews
Assist with pre-qualifications, re-tenders and bid writing as required
What You’ll Bring
Degree qualified or equivalent experience
5–10 years’ experience within the electricity sector, ideally in the non-regulated market
Strong knowledge of the UK electricity landscape, including DNOs, National Grid and renewable generation
Experience within ICP and IDNO markets
Technical understanding of electricity networks and related infrastructure
Familiarity with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred)
Background in account development, bid management or marketing
Proven ability to manage client relationships, track opportunities and meet deadlines
Experience working on large, complex engineering or infrastructure bids
Strong research, analytical and written communication skills
Understanding of work-winning processes and bid governance
Confident engaging new clients and influencing stakeholders at all levels
Proactive mindset with the ability to identify improvement opportunities and drive change
Full UK driving license and willingness to travel nationwide
