We are seeking a skilled and motivated Substation Design Engineer to join our growing team on a remote basis. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 10+ years of hands-on experience in physical substation design, with a solid track record supporting Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs), Municipal Utilities, or Electric Cooperatives. This role requires a strong foundation in substation engineering tools and offers the opportunity to contribute to critical energy infrastructure projects nationwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform physical substation design for high-voltage (HV) substations, including layout, equipment selection, and detailed design drawings.

  • Develop and review design packages, including general arrangements, grounding plans, conduit plans, and bill of materials.

  • Utilize industry-standard engineering software/tools for substation design and modeling.

  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, and internal teams to ensure deliverables meet technical requirements and project deadlines.

  • Prepare and review design calculations, specifications, and engineering reports.

  • Support construction and commissioning teams by providing technical guidance and field support as needed.

  • Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • EIT Certification is required.

  • 5 to 10+ years of hands-on experience in physical substation design for electric utility clients (IOUs, municipal utilities, or co-ops).

  • Prior experience in an engineering consulting environment is strongly preferred. Experience with utility companies will also be considered.

  • Proficient with substation engineering tools/software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, PLS-CADD, etc.).

  • Strong knowledge of substation components including transformers, breakers, buswork, and protection/control systems.

  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Progress toward or attainment of PE license is a plus.

  • Familiarity with NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and other relevant standards.

  • Experience interfacing with utility clients and managing project deliverables.
