​The Role: Storage Principal Engineer

Location: Sheffield, UK

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

• Develop and maintain the long-term strategy for storage infrastructure, ensuring alignment with the bank’s overall IT and business strategies.

• Function as a subject matter expert and advisor on all matters related to storage technologies, providing guidance to senior leadership and IT teams

Architecture & Design:

• Lead the design and architecture of the bank’s storage solutions, including SAN, NAS, object storage, and cloud-based storage systems.

• Ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of storage systems to meet the bank’s growing data needs.

Implementation & Management:

• Oversee the deployment, configuration, and management of enterprise storage solutions.

• Ensure effective data protection strategies, including backup, recovery, and disaster recovery, are in place and regularly evaluated.

Optimisation & Performance Tuning:

• Continuously monitor and optimise storage performance, capacity, and utilisation.

• Lead initiatives to automate storage management tasks and improve operational efficiency.

Security & Compliance:

• Ensure storage systems comply with industry regulations and internal security policies.

• Collaborate with the security team to implement robust data encryption, access controls, and other protective measures.

Technical Skills Required:

• Deep knowledge of SAN, NAS, object storage, and cloud storage technologies.

• Expertise in storage virtualization, performance tuning, and capacity planning

• Proficiency in storage management tools, automation, and scripting.

• Strong understanding of data protection, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.

• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices in the financial industry.
