​Senior Backend Engineer – Leading Energy Company (Contract)

Remote (UK) | 6-Month Rolling Contract | Inside IR35

A leading energy company is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a leading energy company on an urgent contract requirement. This role will focus on building and improving event-driven backend systems that support critical payment and billing services used by millions of customers.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on large-scale distributed systems in a modern AWS serverless environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services for payments and collections systems

• Develop event-driven architectures and services in a cloud-native environment

• Work closely with engineering teams to improve system reliability, performance, and scalability

• Contribute to architecture decisions and engineering best practices

• Support CI/CD and infrastructure automation across the platform

Required Experience

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years at Senior Engineer level

• Strong backend engineering expertise

• Proven experience working with event-driven systems and architectures (minimum 3 years)

• Experience building cloud-native applications on AWS

Must have experience in the following technologies:

• AWS Serverless – Lambda, EventBridge, DynamoDB

• TypeScript

• Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)

• GitHub Actions (CI/CD)
