About the Company
We are seeking an experienced QA Lead to oversee quality assurance and quality control activities on a high voltage substation project in Norfolk, forming part of a major data centre development.
About the Role
This role will take full ownership of site-based QA/QC processes, ensuring all works are delivered in line with client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will drive inspection regimes, manage test documentation, and ensure timely close-out of snagging and punch-list items across electrical and associated civil works.
Responsibilities
Quality Leadership & Compliance
Lead all QA/QC functions on a live HV substation project.
Ensure project quality requirements are compliant with applicable laws, standards, client specifications, and contractual obligations.
Implement and maintain the Project Quality Plan and associated ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans).
Ensure adherence to approved procedures across all subcontractors and trades.
Act as the primary QA representative interfacing with the client and project team
Inspection & Testing
Oversee inspections for:
HV/MV switchgear installation
Transformers
Busbars and cable installations
Protection & control systems
Earthing and lightning protection systems
Ensure ITPs and check sheets are signed off correctly and progressively.
Coordinate FAT/SAT activities where applicable.
Monitor testing activities and ensure full compliance with project documentation requirements.
Documentation & Reporting
Compile and review inspection and test reports (ITRs).
Ensure accurate completion of quality documentation and upload to agreed platforms.
Maintain quality records including:
Test packs
As-built documentation
Material certificates
Calibration records
Prepare and submit quality progress reports to management and client.
Snagging & Close-Out
Compile snag lists and punch lists in coordination with construction teams.
Drive close-out of quality issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Monitor NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) and ensure timely resolution.
Ensure full QA documentation is complete prior to system energisation and handover.
Audits & Continuous Improvement
Conduct internal quality audits.
Support and participate in client audits and inspections.
Monitor KPIs related to defects, test failures, and close-out timelines.
Promote a proactive quality culture across site teams.
Qualifications
Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (preferred).
8+ years’ QA/QC experience, with significant exposure to high voltage substation projects.
Required Skills
Strong working knowledge of:
HV electrical installations
Protection & control systems
Commissioning processes
Inspection & Test Plans
Experience compiling and managing inspection test reports.
Demonstrable experience driving snagging and construction close-out processes.
Familiar with relevant UK and international standards (BS/IEC).
ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification desirable.
Strong documentation, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
