Job description

Project Manager – Piping

Location: Site Based at HPC

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Develop and implement detailed project execution plans, construction schedules, and work methodologies for piping works.

  • Plan manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractor resources to meet project milestones.

  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure constructability and timely availability of drawings and materials.

  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly construction progress and take corrective actions to address delays or deviations.

Construction Management

  • Manage all site piping activities including fabrication, erection, welding, NDT, pressure testing, flushing, reinstatement, and mechanical completion.

  • Ensure proper implementation of construction procedures, method statements, and work permits.

  • Supervise and guide construction managers, supervisors, engineers, and foremen.

  • Interface with other disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation) to ensure integrated execution.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Enforce strict adherence to HSE policies, procedures, and project-specific safety plans.

  • Promote a strong safety culture through toolbox talks, safety meetings, and audits.

  • Ensure all piping activities comply with risk assessments, job safety analyses (JSA), and permit-to-work systems.

  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Quality Assurance & Control

  • Ensure compliance with applicable piping codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI, API, ISO).

  • Oversee QA/QC activities including material traceability, welding qualifications, inspection, and testing.

  • Review and approve inspection and test plans (ITPs) and ensure timely client and third-party inspections.

  • Ensure proper documentation for mechanical completion and handover.

Cost Control & Budget Management

  • Manage project budgets related to piping construction works.

  • Track costs, productivity, and resource utilization; identify cost overruns and implement corrective actions.

  • Review and approve variations, claims, and change orders related to piping scope.

  • Support commercial teams with progress measurement and invoicing.

Stakeholder & Client Coordination

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and subcontractors on piping construction matters.

  • Conduct regular progress meetings and prepare detailed reports on schedule, cost, quality, and safety.

  • Resolve technical, commercial, and execution issues in collaboration with stakeholders.

Risk & Change Management

  • Identify construction risks and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Manage changes to scope, schedule, and resources while minimizing impact on project objectives.

  • Ensure lessons learned are captured and applied throughout the project lifecycle.

Project Closeout & Handover

  • Lead piping mechanical completion, system walkdowns, punch list clearance, and pre-commissioning activities.

  • Ensure as-built documentation, test packs, and handover dossiers are complete and approved.

  • Support commissioning and startup teams as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • 10–15 years of experience in piping construction, with at least 5 years in a project management or senior construction role.

  • Strong knowledge of piping construction practices, welding, inspection, and international codes and standards.

  • Proven experience managing large multidisciplinary construction teams and subcontractors.
