Job Title: Energy and Renewables Originator

Location: Leeds / UK


About the Role

We are supporting a leading energy company in their Energy Supply & Commercial division to recruit an Energy and Renewables Originator. The role focuses on developing, negotiating, and implementing contracts to purchase electricity and gas exported to the Grid by generators, including associated renewable certificates, to support the company’s carbon-zero and sustainability goals.

This is a strategic, client-facing role that combines business development, financial analysis, and commercial negotiation within the energy and renewables space.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deal Origination & Business Development

  • Identify and secure new opportunities for Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), gas supply, and renewable certificates.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, investors, and market stakeholders.

  • Prepare proposals and investment cases for internal approval.

  • Account Management

  • Manage relationships with existing generation partners and ensure contract renewals.

  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client meetings.

  • Contract & Commercial Management

  • Collaborate with Legal and Finance teams to structure and negotiate bespoke contracts.

  • Ensure deals align with commercial, risk, and sustainability objectives.

  • Financial & Strategic Analysis

  • Build financial models to forecast expected margins and contract returns.

  • Contribute to strategic planning and portfolio development for renewable procurement.

  • Market Insight & Product Development

  • Provide intelligence on regulatory changes and emerging market trends.

  • Support the development of innovative PPA and export product offerings.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience in energy trading, origination, commercial negotiation, or contract management, ideally in power or renewables.

  • Strong understanding of UK energy markets, PPAs, and renewable certificate structures.

  • Excellent commercial, analytical, and financial modelling skills.

  • Strong contract negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities.

  • Confident communicator, able to present to senior management and external partners.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce).

Qualifications: Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline.

Behavioural Competencies: Customer-focused, results-oriented, self-motivated, collaborative, and commercially astute.
