Role overview:

As Shift Trading Manager, you will oversee the operation of our 24/7 power trading desk, leading a team of traders, coordinating shift coverage, and ensuring seamless market execution. You will play a key role in strategy development, risk management, and process improvement, with a strong focus on short-term power markets and renewable optimisation.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of shift traders across the UK power markets.

  • Oversee intraday trading operations, ensuring accurate execution and timely decision-making.

  • Develop, implement, and optimise trading strategies for short-term power and renewable assets.

  • Monitor market trends, positions, and risk exposure, providing insights to senior management.

  • Collaborate closely with analytics, risk, and technology teams to improve trading models and automation.

  • Manage shift schedules and ensure full market coverage at all times.

  • Mentor and develop traders, fostering a high-performance, disciplined, and compliant trading environment.

  • Represent the desk in internal and external stakeholder discussions, including exchanges and counterparties.


Requirements:

  • Proven experience in UK short-term power trading (intraday, day-ahead, or balancing markets).

  • Previous management or leadership experience in a 24/7 trading environment.

  • Strong understanding of GB power markets, market regulations, and risk management.

  • Experience with renewable generation optimisation, particularly battery storage (BESS), is desirable.

  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills under pressure.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.

  • Proficiency in trading tools, Excel, and data analytics; experience with Python or VBA is a plus.
