Senior Electrical Design Engineer
£80.5K + Car + bonus

Job Purpose
Working across an Assets and Connections Portfolio, you will be responsible for producing and assuring high-quality electrical designs to an agreed scope as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Designs must be delivered to meet cost, time, and quality targets.
All designs must comply with company design standards and CDM regulations. Projects may include both contestable and non-contestable works.
Principal Accountabilities
- Produce electrical designs that comply with standards and CDM requirements, with minimal supervision, and assure the work of others.
- Deliver effective designs in line with all relevant codes of practice, and company and industry standards, in collaboration with the electrical design team.
- Contribute to technical, commercial, and contractual documentation for procurement of engineering products.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and company procedures.
- Adhere to design assurance and audit processes.
- Prepare concept and developed designs from specifications and drawings within agreed timeframes.
- Undertake peer reviews of contestable design submissions.
- Provide a high level of service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Liaise with operational teams to ensure a smooth process from initial enquiry through to energisation and project completion.
- Fulfil the duties of a designer/principal designer as set out in the CDM Regulations (2015).
- Identify and eliminate design hazards and reduce risks associated with remaining hazards.
- Support and mentor junior team members to develop technical capability and knowledge.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
- Background in electrical engineering with experience in power system and protection design at voltages up to 132kV.
- Strong understanding of design processes, relevant DNO, ENA, and international design standards, and operational aspects for successful project delivery.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with external engineering organisations, customers, and stakeholders.
- Authorised to approve and sign off designs in relevant areas.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and thorough understanding of CDM regulations.
- Ability to work independently, set and achieve targets, and implement cost-effective solutions.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Awareness of business, environmental, safety, financial, and regulatory considerations.
- Understanding of financial reporting systems and project management principles.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Awareness of technological developments in distribution plant and equipment.
- Broad knowledge of cables, overhead lines, and innovative construction techniques.
- Degree (or equivalent) in engineering or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards Chartership.
