A leading, tech-focused energy trading business is looking for a UK Shift Trading Manager to lead its intraday trading team. This role is central to the optimisation of battery storage (BESS) and renewable assets, driving performance in one of the most dynamic areas of the UK energy market.

The Role

As Shift Trading Manager, you’ll oversee live trading and strategy execution across short-term power markets — including day-ahead, intraday, and ancillary services. You’ll work closely with data science and analytics teams to refine BESS optimisation models, monitor real-time market conditions, and ensure consistent trading discipline.

You’ll also lead and mentor a 24/7 trading team, managing the rota, supporting skill development, and ensuring high performance under pressure. Collaboration with risk, technology, and analytics teams will be key, as well as representing the desk with exchanges and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring

• Proven track record in UK short-term power trading (day-ahead and/or intraday)

• Knowledge of BESS assets and their optimisation

• Leadership experience, ideally in a 24/7 trading environment

• Strong understanding of GB power markets, trading regulations, and risk controls

• Sharp analytical and decision-making skills under time pressure

• A genuine interest in the energy transition and trading innovation

Bonus skills: Python or Excel VBA for model/automation work, experience in automated or algorithmic trading workflows, and cross-functional work with data or product teams.
