Job description
Position: Biofuels Broker – Physical Trading & Logistics
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Type: Full-time | On-site / Hybrid
Sector: Energy & Environmental Commodities
About the Role:
A growing international energy and commodities firm is seeking an experienced Biofuels Broker to join its Amsterdam-based trading desk. This role is best suited to a commercially minded professional with a strong understanding of physical biofuels markets and hands-on experience in shipping, logistics, or vessel operations. You'll be joining a dynamic and entrepreneurial team with a proven track record in renewable fuels, environmental certificates, and cross-border trade.
Key Responsibilities:
Originate and broker physical biofuels deals (biodiesel, HVO, ethanol, UCOME, etc.) across European and global markets.
Act as a key liaison between counterparties, coordinating vessel scheduling, shipping documentation, and contract execution.
Leverage existing knowledge of freight, terminals, blending, and supply chains to de-risk trades and add commercial value.
Maintain and grow a strong client book—traders, refiners, blenders, and biofuel end-users.
Monitor market developments, logistics bottlenecks, and price arbitrage opportunities across regions.
Collaborate closely with operations, legal, credit, and trading functions to ensure full compliance and smooth execution.
What We're Looking For:
3–6+ years of experience in biofuels, softs, or clean fuels markets, ideally with a broking or commercial shipping background.
Proven understanding of vessel chartering, freight rates, incoterms, and shipping documentation (e.g. BLs, LC handling, ISCC certificates).
Commercially astute, with a proactive approach to developing client relationships and spotting trade opportunities.
Familiarity with renewable fuel regulations (e.g. RED II, Fit for 55), sustainability schemes (ISCC, REDcert), and certificate trading.
Fluent in English (additional languages, especially Dutch, Spanish, or German, are an advantage).
Based in or willing to relocate to the Netherlands.
What’s on Offer:
Join an agile and ambitious commodities firm with a strong presence across Europe and a growing biofuels portfolio.
Direct exposure to both trading and logistics sides of the business, with clear opportunities for career and PnL progression.
Competitive base salary and generous commission / performance structure.
Supportive, international team culture with flat hierarchy and decision-making autonomy.
Attractive benefits package and potential for equity participation.
