Job Description:
We are seeking an elite Senior MEP Estimator to join our Design Build team within the Advanced Science and Technology division. This is a high-impact role for an industry leader to contribute their expertise on complex, largescale projects, specifically within high-stakes environments such as advanced laboratories, R&D facilities, biotech production sites, and other mission-critical science and technology spaces. The ideal candidate will possess both a strategic and detail-oriented approach to estimating, enabling them to effectively drive project success from preconstruction through final turnover. This position requires a deep understanding of MEP systems, coupled with a mastery of project management and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Estimation Strategy: Spearhead the MEP estimation process, delivering accurate and competitive cost models for highly complex science and technology projects. Influence the design and construction phases by setting high standards for MEP systems’ cost, scope, and quality.
Technical Review and Collaboration: Conduct in-depth analysis of project plans, specs, and design documents, and work directly with architects, engineers, and clients to craft estimates that consider advanced MEP integrations, specialized equipment, and rigorous regulatory compliance requirement.
Subcontractor and Vendor Engagement: Assess subcontractor bids and manage relationships with key suppliers, ensuring the best price-to-quality ratio and alignment with both project requirements and industry standards.
Risk Analysis and Budgeting: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential cost-impacting factors, develop contingency plans, and refine budget tracking methods to maximize financial precision.
Process Improvement and Knowledge Sharing: Mentor junior estimators and continuously enhance estimating processes, database accuracy, and the company’s MEP knowledge base. Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and train team members on best practices in MEP estimation for science and technology projects.
Qualifications:
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Advanced degree (e.g., MSc, MBA) is advantageous.
Experience: 5+ years of experience as an MEP Estimator, with a strong track record of success in high-tech science and technology sectors (such as labs, clean rooms, pharmaceuticals, biotech manufacturing).
Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of advanced MEP systems, codes, and standards, with proven experience in estimating for science and technology facilities. Familiarity with unique requirements for sterile and cleanroom environments, including HEPA filtration, pressurized systems, and redundant HVAC setups.
Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in estimating software (Trimble, Bluebeam, Sage Estimating, or equivalent), with expert-level Excel skills. Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and datadriven cost-estimating practices.
Leadership: Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with a strong history of influencing cross-functional teams and guiding high-level decision-making processes.
Exceptional Communication Skills: Ability to effectively convey complex technical information to stakeholders at all levels, including C-suite executives and client representatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications: Professional certifications in estimating or project management (e.g., ASPE Certified Professional Estimator, LEED AP, PMP) are highly preferred.
Sector-Specific Knowledge: Deep familiarity with emerging MEP technologies, sustainability practices, and standards such as LEED, WELL, or similar in science and technology settings.
Design-Build Experience: Extensive experience with design-build projects in the general contracting field, with a focus on leading MEP integration in high-spec construction environments.
