Head of Reserving – Reserving – London – Hybrid – Salary up to £170,000

 

I am currently working with a growing Lloyds Market Syndicate who are looking for a Head of Reserving to join and head up their current team of 4. They are looking for someone that understands a range of business lines as well as someone to make Reserving their own!

 

This position is based in London 3 days per week with remote options and is paying up to £170,000 + bonus!

 

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver quarterly reserving process outputs, presenting to key stakeholders.
  • Provide allocation, support and mentorship for the Reserving Actuary team.
  • Monitor emerging trends in claims using market and internal data, incorporating insights into reserving assumptions.
  • Drive transformation project.
  • Drive strategic data usage and development.
  • Develop internal MI tools such as dashboards to facilitate cross-team understanding and insights.
  • Manage the SQL reserving process, implementing improvements and conducting annual deep dives to enhance quarterly reporting.
  • Update Reserve Risk parameters quarterly.
  • Lead the actuarial aspects of year-end financial audits.
  • Provide actuarial expertise in project teams, ensuring initiatives are grounded in thorough analysis of benefits and risks.
  • Serve as the primary contact for technical provision-related issues, particularly concerning claims reserves and past claims experience.
  • Ensure all actuarial activities adhere to policies, regulatory frameworks, and standards, escalating concerns as necessary.

 

Qualifications and experience:

  • Proven experience in reserving/technical provisions.
  • FIA qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in general insurance; reinsurance knowledge is advantageous.
  • Experience in liaising with external auditors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, database analysis (e.g., Access or SQL), Power BI, and practical experience in at least one programming language (e.g., VBA/R/Python).
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to focus on relevant detail while keeping sight of the bigger picture.
  • Effective time management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and conflicting priorities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a track record of building relationships with diverse stakeholders.
