Job Title: Head of Major and Complex Loss - Property & Casualty

Job Overview:
My client is a top performing global claims management business, they are looking for a Head of Major and Complex Loss (MCL) – with a focus on Property & Casualty will be responsible for managing a specialised team that handles large, complex, and losses across various sectors in Germany and, potentially, wider European markets. This role demands strategic leadership, technical expertise in loss management, and strong stakeholder engagement to ensure swift, fair, and efficient claims resolution for large-scale losses in both the property and casualty sectors. You will work closely with internal teams, clients, brokers, and external experts (e.g., adjusters, engineers, and legal advisors).
Key Responsibilities:
Client Strategy: Develop & lead on the expansion of the business unit, inclusive of business development, management of relationship and identifying cross sell opportunities.
Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of senior adjusters, loss specialists, and claims handlers focused on major and complex loss cases.
Technical Expertise: Serve as the lead technical authority on complex property and casualty claims, advising on appropriate loss management strategies and claims resolution approaches.
Claims Strategy: Develop and implement claims strategies for major and complex losses to ensure efficiency, compliance, and alignment with business objectives.
Claims Handling: Personally manage or oversee the most significant and complex loss claims, ensuring accurate evaluation, reserve management, negotiation, and settlement.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including insurers, brokers, clients, loss adjusters, legal professionals, and industry bodies.
Financial Oversight: Provide financial oversight of claims, ensuring proper reserving, expense control, and managing cost efficiency in claims settlements.
Continuous Improvement: Drive improvements in claims processes and systems, ensuring best practices in loss management, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all claims handling processes and practices adhere to German and European regulatory standards.
Risk Management: Collaborate with underwriting and risk management teams to provide insights into loss trends, mitigation strategies, and potential impacts on risk pricing and management.
Market Engagement: Represent the company at industry conferences, forums, and events, contributing to thought leadership in the major and complex loss space.
Skills and Qualifications:
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in, major and complex loss management with a focus on property and casualty claims.
Experience working in the German insurance market is essential.
Proven leadership experience in managing teams and handling high-value, complex claims.
Familiarity with multi-national or cross-border claims handling is advantageous.
Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of property and casualty insurance policies, coverage interpretation, and complex loss adjudication.
Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of German and European insurance law and regulatory frameworks.
Negotiation & Communication: Strong negotiation, mediation, and communication skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders and resolve conflicts.
Languages: Fluency in German and English is essential. Additional European languages would be a plus.
Problem-Solving: Ability to analyse complex claims scenarios, anticipate challenges, and develop innovative solutions.
Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
