Job description

Join a mission-driven startup reshaping cyber insurance from the ground up.

My client is a high-growth, venture-backed cyber insurance company on a mission to make protection against cyber threats smarter, simpler, and far more accessible to the businesses that need it most. Our platform empowers companies to mitigate risk through better data, automation, and dynamic coverage eliminating the outdated, one-size-fits-all approach to cyber insurance.

About the Role:

This is a rare opportunity to shape both the technical DNA and the company culture of a category-defining product in a legacy industry. You'll build modern, scalable infrastructure, enable seamless integrations, and deliver user experiences that set the bar in cyber insurance.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Vision & Strategy

  • Own and define our technical roadmap and architecture, focusing on performance, scalability, and extensibility

  • Make critical architectural and stack-level decisions with long-term velocity and stability in mind

  • Contribute hands-on as needed especially early on to set engineering standards and velocity

Executive Partnership

  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Business to build features that drive measurable impact

  • Translate company objectives into engineering priorities

  • Act as a strategic advisor to the CEO and leadership team on technical direction

Team Leadership & Growth

  • Hire, develop, and lead a high-performance engineering team

  • Build an inclusive culture of trust, feedback, and technical excellence

  • Implement best-in-class engineering processes: agile planning, CI/CD, code quality, incident response

Operational Excellence

  • Track and manage engineering KPIs: velocity, code quality, uptime, platform health

  • Create a strong culture of accountability around addressing tech debt and maintaining system integrity

  • Ensure compliance with evolving cybersecurity, privacy, and insurance regulations

What We're Looking For:

  • 10+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years leading teams at high-growth startups (Series A–C)

  • Proven ability to scale engineering orgs from early-stage to maturity

  • Strong technical depth across full-stack development, integrations, cloud infrastructure, and API design

  • Experience aligning engineering with product, growth, and customer impact

  • Exceptional communication skills across technical and non-technical teams

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in cybersecurity, insurance, or other regulated industries

  • Exposure to AI/ML in a productized environment

  • Passion for building in fast-paced, mission-driven settings
