The role can be based at a regional office, remotely, or in a hybrid arrangement, and may include periodic travel for project meetings and site activities across the country.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute detailed design and engineering work for protection and control systems within power networks and renewable generation projects.

  • Prepare technical documentation, including protection schematics, single-line diagrams, specifications, and data sheets for systems typically operating between 33kV and 400kV.

  • Participate in meetings with clients, contractors, and project partners to ensure project objectives are met.

  • Support continuous improvement across engineering processes by identifying areas for enhancement and sharing feedback with the wider team.

  • Maintain productive working relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Manage assigned projects from concept through to completion, ensuring quality, schedule, and technical standards are achieved.

  • Produce high-quality technical reports and present findings clearly to clients and peers.

  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and knowledge transfer to support professional growth.

  • Plan, coordinate, and review engineering work to achieve deliverables related to quality, progress, and compliance.

  • Interpret client requirements to deliver technically robust design solutions.

  • Ensure familiarity with relevant UK, European, and international standards, codes of practice, and safety regulations.

  • Follow all internal engineering procedures and maintain professional development in line with industry expectations.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Working toward or holding professional registration (e.g., Chartered status).

  • At least five years’ experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on protection and control system design.

  • Practical understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements and compliance with design risk assessment obligations.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop protection schemes and justify engineering decisions through sound technical reasoning.
