Position: Energy Storage Systems Design Lead (Design Manager)– Infrastructure and Engineering

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a forward-thinking infrastructure delivery firm as the Design Lead for Energy Storage Systems. This role will be based within a collaborative joint venture that unites hands-on construction capability with world-class design proficiency, driving innovation in energy infrastructure projects.

You will take the reins of a multidisciplinary team responsible for shaping and executing an expanding portfolio of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) initiatives. Working in close coordination with global technical resources, you’ll deliver integrated design solutions for high-impact projects.

As a key member of the executive leadership group, you’ll cultivate strong, trust-based relationships with clients and stakeholders to ensure our services consistently exceed expectations and contribute meaningfully to sustainability and performance targets.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Strategic oversight of health, safety, and well-being across all projects, promoting a culture of care, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Ensuring that all statutory duties under the CDM Regulations (2015) are fulfilled, especially those associated with the roles of Principal Designer and Designer.
• Fostering a people-first culture that emphasizes safety, engagement, innovation, and collaboration.
• Driving talent management within your team — from recruitment and skills development to succession planning and performance optimization — to meet both present and future demands.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Holds a degree in engineering, applied science, or a closely related field.
• Chartered status (or equivalent recognition in professional engineering).
• Demonstrated success in leading multi-skilled teams on complex infrastructure projects.
• Strong background in managing design processes within design-and-build environments, with a keen ability to balance time, budget, and quality constraints.
• Hands-on project leadership experience, with an understanding of both electrical and civil methodologies across varying voltage ranges.
• Deep expertise in electrical network design, spanning low-voltage to 400kV systems, including integration within transmission and distribution networks.
• Familiarity with both contestable and non-contestable connection works and capital investment schemes.
• Proven ability to scope, price, and deliver competitive tenders for large-scale, technically complex projects.
