Senior Delegated Authority Underwriter
Vallum Associates are delighted to be partnered with an extremely reputable underwriting franchise in the Lloyd’s market, this company has since expanded to three offices across the UK and the US, offering diverse insurance solutions through Lloyd’s consortia and US E&S platforms. Managing over 30 distribution partners and GBP110m in written business, the organization aims to further grow across all placement platforms in the next three to five years.
With a dedicated team of over 20 employees across underwriting, actuarial, operations, exposure management, and legal, the company specialises in alternative insurance risk solutions, binders, and portfolio deals, delivering client value in delegated authority for unique and complex risks.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Underwriter you will join a team of four Underwriters responsible for managing a portfolio of over 30 distribution partners and USD130m of GWP, with anticipated growth.
Primary Duties:
- Underwrite across a variety of coverages and territories, specialising in alternative insurance risk solutions, binders, and portfolio deals.
- Take responsibility for elements of the portfolio to drive underwriting profit and optimize performance through market cycles.
- Manage new business development, with international travel as required.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and coverholders to enable profitable portfolio growth.
- Adopt an analytical approach to underwriting and portfolio management, collaborating closely with a team of actuaries and pricing analysts.

- Ability to work independently while fostering a collaborative environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging with brokers, clients, capital providers, and internal teams.
- Proven ability to monitor portfolio performance and drive optimization through market cycles.
Skills:
- Skilled in developing business and broker relationships, with travel as part of the role.
- Analytical proficiency, able to foster a data-driven culture and leverage data for underwriting decisions.
- Self-motivated with a proven ability to manage underwriting decisions autonomously, while remaining open to discussion and constructive feedback.
Experience:
- A solid presence in the Lloyd’s/London market with a track record of producing business within specified appetite.
- Experience in delegated authority or reinsurance markets, with a portfolio underwriting approach.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and achieve underwriting profitability.
- Experience in contract negotiation and stakeholder influence.
Qualifications:
- University degree required; ACII qualification preferred.
