​The Role

As a Power BI Developer you are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence solutions using Power BI to transform raw data into meaningful insights and interactive dashboards. You will be working closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, build data models, and ensure accurate reporting for data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
1. Legacy EDW Analysis

• Review and understand existing SQL scripts used in legacy reporting systems.

• Reverse-engineer business logic embedded within SQL queries.

• Identify dependencies, transformations, and calculation logic.

2. Data Modeling in Power

• BIDesign and develop Power BI semantic models (datasets) based on extracted SQL logic.

• Implement scalable and optimised star schema data models.

• Define relationships, hierarchies, and business-friendly structures

3. SQL Development & Transformation

• Write, optimise, and refactor SQL queries to support data extraction and transformation.

• Translate complex SQL-based transformations into Power Query (M) and/or model logic.

• Ensure data consistency between legacy EDW and new models.

4. Enable Self-Service Analytics

• Build datasets that are intuitive and ready for self-service consumption

• Define clear naming conventions, calculated measures (DAX), and metadata

• Work with key users to ensure usability of the semantic layer

Technical Skills

• Strong SQL expertise (complex queries, joins, CTEs, window functions)

• Experience working with Enterprise Data Warehouses (EDW)

• Solid knowledge of Power BI data modeling (semantic layer)

• Proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M)

• Understanding of star schema and dimensional modelling

• Experience with large datasets and performance optimisation
