Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a high-conviction Senior Gas Trader to join our expanding European Energy desk in Zug. This role is focused on short-term proprietary trading, specifically targeting the TTF and NBP hubs.
The ideal candidate is a disciplined risk-taker with a verifiable track record of delivering significant P&L in volatile environments. You will have the autonomy to execute proprietary strategies while leveraging our firm's deep fundamental research and high-spec ETRM infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Proprietary Risk Management: Execute short-term proprietary strategies on the front-end of the European Gas curve (TTF/NBP).
Strategy Diversification: Capture value through Geographical Arbitrage, Time Spreads, and Cross-Commodity Spreads (including Spark Spreads and EUA/Carbon interface).
Market Analysis: Work alongside fundamental analysts to translate global supply/demand shifts (LNG flows, storage levels, and geopolitical disruptions) into actionable trade ideas.
Capital Allocation: Manage a significant trading mandate with a base-case VaR of $1M, with the objective of scaling based on performance.
Liquidity Management: Maintain and grow relationships with key counterparties, including majors, utilities, and financial institutions.
Technical Qualifications
Experience: 5–10 years of successful proprietary trading experience within a top-tier trading house, utility, or hedge fund.
P&L Track Record: A verifiable history of generating $10M–$20M+ annual P&L with a strong Sharpe ratio.
Software Proficiency: Expert user of Trayport Joule, ICE, and Bloomberg. Experience with ETRM systems (e.g., Endur) is highly preferred.
Quantitative Edge: Proficiency in VBA or Python for desk-level tool development and spread modeling is a distinct advantage.
Core Competencies
Conviction & Discipline: Ability to hold and manage large positions during periods of extreme market volatility (e.g., current Middle East geopolitical tension).
Fundamental Fluency: Deep understanding of the global LNG market and its impact on European price formation.
Entrepreneurial Mindset: A self-starter who thrives in a lean, high-performance environment with minimal bureaucracy.
Education & Requirements
Education: Degree in Finance, Economics, or a quantitative discipline.
Languages: Fluency in English is essential. Additional European languages (German, French, or Russian) are a plus.
Permit: Candidates with existing Swiss B/C Permits or those eligible for immediate relocation to Zug/Zurich.
